Hello... Unreal Game Developers

Ready to build fun, engaging, purpose-driven games?

Remote Working /

Full-time / 6 month contract

Posted: 5 March 2026

About you

You're an experienced and passionate Unreal Engine Developer who thrives on building rich, complex game systems from the ground up. You've shipped games on Steam and you know what it takes to get a title across the line, from early structural passes through to a polished, live products.

You're equally comfortable writing clean, performant C++ and working within Unreal's Blueprint system, and you understand how to integrate third-party systems and infrastructure into a game environment.

You're a strong collaborator. You've worked within development teams before, you communicate well, and you take ownership of your work. You care about the craft and you bring that care to every feature you touch.

At fish in a bottle, we're building something we're genuinely excited about, and we're looking for someone who wants to be a meaningful part of that.

If that sounds like you, we'd love to hear from you.

About the role

This is a hands-on development role at the heart of an openworld survival game currently in development, one of the most ambitious and exciting projects we've taken on as a studio.

You'll work across core game features, contributing to structural development passes, implementing gameplay systems, and ensuring the technical foundations of the game are solid, scalable, and built to last. You'll collaborate closely with the Project Manager, developers, and creatives, as well as stakeholders across the business, to deliver features that bring the game's creative and technical vision to life.

This isn't a role for someone looking to find their feet in Unreal, it's for someone who already knows the engine deeply and is ready to make a real impact from day one.

What you'll be doing

  • Writing robust, highly optimised C++ with game performance front of mind at every stage, ensuring the codebase is as lean and efficient as possible
  • Carrying out structural development passes, ensuring the game's technical architecture is sound at every stage
  • Integrating third-party systems and external infrastructure into the Unreal environment
  • Working within Unreal's Blueprint system to support and extend gameplay functionality
  • Collaborating closely with the wider development team to deliver features that meet the creative and technical vision of the game
  • Profiling, debugging, and identifying performance bottlenecks throughout development to maintain a consistently high standard of gameplay performance

What we're looking for

  • Proven, hands-on experience with Unreal Engine - this is an absolute must
  • Strong C++ skills, with a track record of writing clean, maintainable game code
  • A performance-first mindset, with demonstrable experience writing optimised code and profiling Unreal projects to get the most out of the engine
  • Experience with Unreal Blueprints and how they work alongside C++ in a production environment
  • A solid understanding of third-party system integration and working with external infrastructure within a game project
  • Experience carrying out structural passes within Unreal projects
  • A demonstrable history of shipping games on Steam, either independently or as part of a development team
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a remote team environment
